Uses for Pneumatic Valves and Equipment
Pneumatic valves are used to control the flow of compressed air and use that air to open or close an orifice. While pneumatic valves are generally used in industrial applications, they can also regularly be found in industrial robotics or other industrial automation applications.
Pneumatic valves work by allowing compressed air to move a diaphragm or piston within a valve body. That piston is connected to a valve stem which controls the flow of air. When compressed air is applied, that air pushes the piston down, opening the valve. When the pressure is released, the piston returns to its position, closing the valve.
A wide range of pneumatic valves are available based on application. This could include angle valves, check valves, relief valves, or solenoid valves. Our experts will meet with you and determine the needs of your application and suggest the best pneumatic valve for your process.

Pneumatic Valve Benefits
Utilizing pneumatic valves within industrial automation applications come with a variety of benefits. This can include custom design that can be integrated easily, reliable operation requiring little maintenance, ease of use, increased safety, and high durability.
Another benefit of utilizing pneumatic components is being able to partner with experts like Cross Automation. Through our strategic partnerships, we’re able to provide high-quality equipment with competitive turnaround times and industry-leading customer support.
Custom Design
Many of our customers have very specific production needs and require application-specific solutions. Through our partnerships with leading manufacturers we can provide those solutions to our customers.
Increased Safety
Pneumatic equipment comes with inherent safety features that many electric equipment systems don’t possess. This includes built-in safety when it comes to operations in potentially explosive environments.
Ease of Integration
Many pneumatic components (like pneumatic valves) are designed to be easily integrated into existing systems. Meaning that upgrading pneumatic systems doesn’t have to mean a complete greenfield overhaul.
Applications for Pneumatic Valves
Pneumatic valves are used in a wide range of industrial applications. This includes
- Material handling applications
- Packaging machines
- Robotic arms
- Conveyor belts
- Medical devices
- Manufacturing machines
- Construction equipment
- Agricultural equipment
- And many others
Pneumatic equipment is designed to both control air and transmit energy. This dual functionality is an invaluable asset to the operations who rely on it. In fact, many operations aren’t able to function if a pneumatic component is broken, unreliable, or down for unexpected maintenance.
That’s why it’s so important to right-size the pneumatic components you need for your operation. When you work with an expert, you know you’re getting the application-specific components your production process needs. This can mean ease of installation, increased throughput, and greater overall efficiency (not to mention greater safety).
